Our Design Philosophies are simple:
Respect History: Respecting those who have gone before us and what they have done is very important when dealing with the built environment. In many cases, buildings have been used and re-used for decades. We can learn from successes and from failures. We can experience space within and between buildings first-hand. We can witness the value of certain materials and study the habits of the occupants. History does teach us a great deal. Respect of history is essential.
Preserve Beauty: We must make sure we look for the beauty in sites, buildings and communities. Recognizing and taking advantage of existing beauty is like giving a project a free head start or boost. We must also recognize what is beauty to our clients. It may differ from project to project. Recognizing, preserving and communicating existing beauty will create more beauty.
Build Longevity: We must strive to use materials that will stand the test of time. What we do as designers and team members will long outlive us. It will speak to future generations of our commitment to the environment we live in. We must resist the temptations for quick and disposable systems and champion sustainable, permanent solutions that validate our commitment to our decisions.
Embrace Stewardship: Our lives as design professionals revolve around awareness, communication, value, problem-solving and experience. We are not good stewards of our time, our abilities, our environment, proposed budgets and overall function, we are failing to accomplish our objectives. We must also encourage our team mates (clients) to become good stewards of their resources as well.
Advocate Sustainability: We're helping our clients turn over a new leaf with GREEN building design; reducing operating costs, enhancing marketability and increasing employee productivity all while being good stewards of our environment. It's the right thing to do. Which is why we’ve been incorporating elements of today’s green standards into our designs for years. And with nine LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professionals, we’re uniquely qualified to help you become more environmentally friendly. To your specifications. No matter what.Create Innovation: Innovation takes many forms when related to the built environment. Innovation can be very simple and straight forward. Innovation can be very complex. Innovation is the result of exploring the unexpected, studying the obvious and leaving no stone unturned. Innovation is what sets successful solutions apart from average ones. It captures the soul of a project and makes the users proud of their venture. Innovation is the fuel that runs within the successful design professionals.
Enhance Living: Most of our projects house occupants in one form or another. What we do dramatically affects the majority of our client’s and user’s time. We can not forget the monumental obligation to do our best to make spaces appropriate for the intended use. Materials, volumes, acoustics, light, adjacencies, access and views are all critical to the success or failure of the spaces and voids we create. We must not forget.
Imagine Better: No matter how good we think we are or how successful we become, we must ground ourselves in the knowledge that there is always a better solution to the one we came up with. Perfection will never be achieved, but we can not be satisfied with good enough. We must always strive, for our clients, users and communities, to do better than we thought we could do.
