HARRISBURG NORTH MIDDLE SCHOOL

This is a new middle school for grades 6-8 of the Harrisburg School District. The school capacity is 840, but the building has been designed for expansion up to 1,260 students. The school is designed to enhance the education process with a variety of education spaces including conference rooms and an open pod design for each grade level. The open pod areas will encourage social interaction between students and staff in a casual atmosphere. The science rooms will incorporate an exterior science center. The building consists of six houses of five classrooms each. The staff will have flexibility to use four or five classrooms for each house in the future. The building is designed for easy administration security and control. Besides the classrooms, the school includes technology labs, an art room, family consumer science labs, media center, gymnasium seating 1,200, auditorium seating 500, two music rooms, a multipurpose physical education room, locker rooms, a large central student commons and a kitchen.
